The legendary Rutherglen winemaker was 73, and passed from a short battle with cancer peacefully at his home, surrounded by close family.

He was an inspirational leader, had a life membership of the Australian Wine Industry, and was responsible for iconic wines such as the Merchant Prince Muscat and Bobby Burns Shiraz.

Colin has left the winery in good hands with his daughters Jane, Susie and Jules to work alongside Colin’s brother and fellow director Malcolm Campbell OAM.

The family wrote on the Campbell Wines Facebook page that "the winery will be closed on Friday 17th May to allow family, staff and the community to pay their respects to Col. We invite you all to join with us and toast to Col. He will be forever in our hearts".
