Cold and Rain Ahead

Autumn Weather Forecast for the North East

The start of autumn has been glorious in the North East, but the good weather is not going to last.

While a warm weekend is predicted, meteorologist Karl Lijnders says changes are coming next week.

"It's going to be pretty good this weekend, temperatures around the mid-20s, smooth sailing all the way through," he explains.

"But there's the potential of a significant rain event developing after Monday. Once we get past Sunday and Monday, the temperature will fall away and next week does look quite wet and it will be becoming quite cold as we get to this time next week."

He says it's been quite a warm and dry start to autumn in the North East, but soon more "traditional" weather is coming.

"May is our fog season, so certainly we'll see some more fog and frost as we get the longer nights and the colder air coming up from the south," says Mr Lijnders.

"So make the most of those warmer days summer fans, your time is coming to an end!"
