Federal Member calls for kindness, patience, adherence to measures

Self-isolation and social distancing are just two of the vital steps we’re being advised to take to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

With strict new measures in place, North East residents are being encouraged to avoid social gatherings such as BBQ’s, to leave their houses only if absolutely necessary and not to panic buy.

Independent Federal Member for Indi Helen Haines advised people to familiarise themselves with the new measures, ask themselves if they need to leave their homes, and if they do, be aware of the environments they’ll be in, and what they need to do to keep themselves and the community safe.

‘It’s really important that we take these measures seriously. That way, we protect the health of everyone, and we save our health professionals a world of pain as they try to manage this very serious crisis.’

Ms Haines also advised those who’d lost their jobs or found themselves in different circumstances to begin by accessing the MyGov website or telephoning Centrelink, asked for patience while the Government works on making the stimulus package available to people, and stressed the importance of all of us reaching out to others and being kind to one another during these difficult times.
