North East Staff To Assist Shepparton

NORTHEAST Health Wangaratta will increase testing rates amid the Shepparton outbreak with assistance from the defence force and extra staff on the ground.

The staff from Goulburn Valley Health have been overwhelmed with thousands of people showing up the last 2 days to get tested, with health officials forced to turn some away, prompted by 3 people testing positive to COVID-19.

The cases are linked to a Kilmore cluster, after a supplier from Melbourne travelled to the region, and later tested positive for the virus.

Staff from Wangaratta have been sent to Shepparton to assist with testing.

David Kidd, Director of Partnerships and Well-aging at Northeast Health says around 30 people are turning up for testing in Wangaratta per day and they are expecting a greater demand today.

Anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 are being urged to get tested immediately.
