Be Among The First To Kick A Footy At Sports Ground

The community is invited to bring a footy for a kick on the oval, or a bat and ball for a hit in the new nets to help celebrate the opening of the redeveloped Lavington Sports Ground on Saturday.

The open day will feature tours of the venue between 10am and noon, but bookings must be made via AlburyCity’s website.

Speaking with Kylie & Kev, AlburyCity’s Events Team Leader Ros Walls encouraged locals to explore all aspects of the redevelopment.

“It’s a rare opportunity to have a look at the amazing new facilities – the new function centre, the second arena, the 1800 seat grandstand, the media centre, you can go to the changerooms where Marcus Bontempelli and Dustin Martin might soon be getting ready (for AFL pre-season game) check out all the things you might not normally be able to see,” Ros said.

The AFLW GWS Giants have been using the ground as a training venue, with the first major event confirmed – an AFL pre-season clash between Richmond and the Western Bulldogs on 27 February.

“We’ve got the best stadium between Melbourne and Canberra, so we’re pretty proud to be throwing open the gates to the community,” Ros said.

“Jump on the website, book your tour, bring the kids, go down to the change rooms and pretend you’re strapping up or make some moves in the coaches box.”
