The loss of habitat has a serious impact on our forests, especially iconic species such as the Pygmy Possum, Powerful Owl, South-eastern Red-tailed Cockatoo and the Greater Glider. Plus so many more.

They need to be protected which is why Chief Conservation Regulator Kate Gavens says major fines will be issued to those going outside the rules.

People will be issued fines up to $8,261 with vehicles and equipment likely to be seized.

Collection limits include taking a maximum of two cubic metres per person per day and a maximum of 16 cubic metres per household per financial year.

Commercial firewood suppliers need to have the appropriate licences and permits in order to collect and sell firewood.
