"It's Blown Our Minds"

The inaugural Sunshine Walk has been completed and has been deemed a very successful event after smashing targets in both participation and money raised.

Organisers of the Sunshine walk were initially hoping to raise $100,000. Chairperson of the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund Michelle Hensel says that figures were smashed. "We're quietly confident we will smash $200,000".

We thought the initial goal of $100,000 we thought was ambitious".

"This community we live in, I continue to be overwhelmed by. It's just so supportive". Ms Hensel says

Participation numbers for the event were also strong and exceeded the 500 people target. "We had overwhelming numbers. We had 1000 lanyards made and actually ran out".

"We had approximately 600 people on the 20km walk and approximately 400 people on the 5km walk".

The success of the event is attributed to the show of solidarity and support for cancer patients and cancer services in our region. "It's been incredibly successful. It's blown our minds that we can have an inaugural event and be incredibly successful. People are understanding now that if you support the trust fund that 100% of that money stays locally". says Ms Hensel.
