Chairperson of the festival Miriam Zolin says the break is intentional to reassess matters of funding and operational direction.

"The break is just about taking a breath and having a look at its operational model, fundraising model, how we’re structured, our constitution - these things haven't been reviewed for a long time," she said.

As the Wangaratta Jazz and Blues Festival rebuilds its future, Miriam is putting a call out to the whole community for new board members.

"We want to hear from you if you love jazz and improvised music, love the region, and want to get involved in this fantastic festival."

Meanwhile Rural City of Wangaratta mayor Dean Rees has revealed that $100,000 was allocated to the event last year to assist with costs. He also added a potential new music event could happen over the Melbourne Cup weekend.
