Named after the last mine to operate in the area, the McEvoy Tavern was created as the smallest pub in Victoria in 1991 when it was sectioned off from the general store.
Many of the locals use the tavern as a gathering point to meet up with each other, catch up on local news, and wind down after a hard day’s work. It’s also popular with tourists who have come to explore the area for its mining history, bushland walks, local arts and crafts, gems and crystals!Visit Online

Brown Brothers is one of Australia’s leading family owned wine companies and has been making wine in Milawa for nearly 130 years. Founded in 1889 by John Francis Brown, it was under the guidance of his son, John Charles Brown that Brown Brothers really established its reputation as a producer willing to experiment with innovative grape varieties. Brown Brothers sense of adventure and innovation has led them to create new wine varieties, push boundaries and develop vineyards in some of the best regions in Victoria and Tasmania.
The Brown family is proud to have forged a reputation, locally and abroad, as varietal wine specialists and winemaking innovators, making over 50 different varietals and styles. As a key member of Australia’s First Families of Wine, the third and fourth generations of the family keep the Brown tradition alive with members of both generations working within the business.
Over the years there’s been many changes in the Australian Wine industry, yet the cornerstones of Brown Brothers remain constant. They remain a family business; still hand-crafting quality wine.Visit Online
In 1990 the first vines were planted at King River Estate. This picturesque location, on the banks of the King River, allows the vineyard to utilise alluvial deposits and being close to the water table provides the vines with a reliable natural water supply and access to rich minerals.
Superb, complex wines are created using minimal intervention and old world techniques. The wines are made naturally and the grapes are left to interact with wild yeasts, allowing for a natural fermentation to take place, resulting in soft, and textural wines.
Come and discover the range of wines on offer at King River Estate, including some less familiar varieties, making a visit to their cellar door, a unique experience. King River Estate offers wine tours available upon request (bookings essential), Local cheeses, olives and preserves, Wood-fired pizza for groups (booking essential), and the cellar door is open Friday – Sunday & Public Holidays 11am to 5pm.Visit Online
